Transport

According to a survey by CRed in 2007 over 75% percent of Carbon Dioxide emissions in Suffolk Coastal district are accounted for by transport and domestic energy consumption.  We can cut our transport related CO2 emissions by making less journeys or using more environmentally friendly forms of transport.  But most of us are reliant on our cars, so what are the options?

It's Free!

  • If it's a short journey, cycle or walk.
  • For longer journeys, share the car with a friend or join a car sharing scheme - have a look at Suffolk Car Share for more information.

It'll Save you money!

  • If you car is due for replacement think about buying a more environmentally friendly model or motorcycle.  There's more information at  Clean Green Cars.

It's Good for the Planet!

It's An idea!

  • Car clubs. A car club is an organised way of sharing a vehicle. The club owns the car and members pay an annual fee and an hourly rate when they use it. Typical annual fees are about £50 with hourly rates around the £5 mark.  Most car clubs are based in cities, but Reepham in Norfolk have been awarded £30,000 by EEDA to start their own club to trial the idea in a rural setting.  Have a look at Car Clubs for more information.
  • Bike-n-Ride.  There used to be a cycle bus in Suffolk, but it seems to have dissapeared.  Wouldn't it be nice if it came back, so that it could take all those cyclists (and would be cyclists) within easy pedalling distance of their final destination.
