Listed Buildings

Framlingham has a high proportion of listed properties, which can be a problem when trying to make the buildings more energy efficient.  For instance, fitting new double glazed windows would require listed buildings consent, which is unlikely to be granted as maintaining architectural integrity takes precedence over environmental issues.  Making unauthorised alterations to a listed building is a criminal offence, so it is impreative that the planning authorities are consulted before any action is taken.

There's a lot of information on the Government's Planning Portal.

Suffolk Coastal District have some planning guidance here.

Double Glazing

It's unlikely that consent will be given for the replacement of existing single glazed windows with double glazed equivalents.  However, secondary double glazing should be acceptable as long as it is not obviously visible from the outside.

Solar Panels

The Planning Portal has the following advice about fitting solar panels.

"If your property is a listed building installation is likely to require an application for listed building consent, even where planning permission is not needed."
